Common Blue


  • Male is¬†bright blue with thin white margin
  • Female is brown with blue dusting near body, sometimes covering most of wing, and orange¬†spots at wing edge


  • Male is pale blue-grey, females are brown, both with black spots and small orange triangles on the edges of both wings
  • Hindwings have a pair of spots in . . pattern as opposed to : pattern in Brown Argus.



Found throughout Ireland and Britain


Very common and found in a variety of habitats especially sunny sheltered spots


Similar Species

Male is distinguished from Holly Blue which has pale blue underside with no orange spots, female is very similar to Brown Argus
